Palm Oil Awareness

Investigating public awareness and perception of palm oil

Back to the knowledge centre

Why is palm oil an issue? Is it sustainable?

Palm oil has been all over the news in the last year after Iceland’s Christmas advert was banned and because of the continued destruction of the rainforest habitat of the orangutans.

The issues surrounding Palm oil are complicated and Data Pad asked our exclusive consumer panel about their awareness of Palm Oil, using a sample of over 5,000, to explore how purchase decisions change across demographics and which products are most well-known for containing palm oil.

Palm oil deforestation has reduced orangutan populates by an estimated 74% since 1973.

We investigate consumer awareness of RSPO (Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil) eco label and specifically those who say they avoid sustainable palm oil, plus the rise of palm oil free alternatives.
